Commander John Pergola joined the United States Power Squadrons in December of 2010 after completing the Basic Boating  Course where he earned his boating certificate. John added to his education by completing Boat Handling in 2011 earning the grade of Seaman, and Marine Navigation in  earning the grade of Pilot. In 2013 John would go on to complete Advanced Marine Navigation earning the grade of Advanced Pilot.  In addition to earning the Grade of Advanced Pilot, he has completed courses on Engine Maintenance, Marine Electrical Systems, Marine Communication Systems, Electronic Navigation, Weather,  as well as 8 seminars. John has earned 9 merit marks which is based on dedication and work that has been accomplished within the Squadron. 

In the role as the principal officer of the squadron, the Commander assumes the ultimate responsibility for leadership and management of the squadron as outlined in the Bylaws of the Squadron and USPS. The Commander is a member of the National Governing Board and represents the Squadron on District and National level.

Lieutenant Commander James M Milton is a Junior Navigator of the United States Power Squadrons (United States Power Squadrons – America’s Boating Club). In conjunction with his position as executive officer James holds the rank of Staff Commander as chair of the National Member Benefits Committee.. His previous Squadron responsibilities include serving as Commander in 2019, Executive Officer in 2018, Educational Officer in 2016 and 2017, Assistant Educational Officer in 2015, and Webmaster in 2013 and 2014. James has received the following educational advancements and awards in the Squadron; took the ABC Basic Boating Course in 2007 and achieved the grade of Seamanship in 2007, Piloting in 2008, Advanced Piloting in 2010, and Junior Navigator in 2015. He has also earned Educational Proficiency in 2017, the Pilot Award in 2015, and the Lifesaving Award in 2019 for saving the life of a child and father on the water on July 27, 2017. He became a Senior Member of the United States Power Squadron in 2011. He has successfully completed the following additional Squadron Courses: Operations Training in 2016, RADAR in 2015, “Man Overboard” in 2016, Advanced Powerboat Handling, Weather Forecasting, Emergencies On-Board, Cruise Planning, and Engine Maintenance all in 2017.

James is also a Certified Vessel Examiner, SERAT Captain, and a Certified Instructor of the United States Power Squadrons. He has earned 15 Merit Marks with the United States Power Squadrons, which is based on dedication and work that has been accomplished within the Squadron. 

As an elected Bridge Officer, the Executive Officer is responsible for the functions described as “external affairs”. He oversees the committees for Boat Show, Cooperative Charting, Liaison Legislative, Public Relations, Radio Technical, Safety, and Vessel Safety Checks. The Executive Officer is a member, ex-officio, of all committees of the Executive Department and is responsible for seeing that they function properly in accordance with the policy and authority of USPS. In the absence or incapacity of the Commander, the Executive Officer assumes the duties of the Commander.

Lieutenant Commander  Diane Boland joined the United States Power Squadrons in June of 2013 after completing the Boat SMART boating course where she earned his boating certificate. Her previous squadron responsiblilies include serving as Administrative Officer in 2019. Diane added to her education by completing Boat Handling in 2013 earning the grade of Seaman.  In addition to earning the Grade of Seaman, she has completed the course on Weather as well as 2 seminars. Diane has earned 6 merit marks which is based on dedication and work that has been accomplished within the Squadron. 

As an elected Bridge Officer, the Administrative Officer is responsible for the functions described as “internal affairs of the squadron”. The Administrative Officer should be well acquainted with the Operations Manual and have taken Operations Training within the past four years.

Lieutenant Commander  Michael Boland joined the United States Power Squadrons in March of 2012 after completing the Boat SMART boating course where he earned his boating certificate. Michael added to his education by completing Boat Handling in 2013 earning the grade of Seaman, and Marine Navigation in 2013 earning the grade of Pilot, and Advanced Marine Navigation in 2014 earning the grade of Advanced Pilot.  In addition to earning the Grade of Advanced Pilot, he has completed courses on Marine Electrical Systems, and Weather as well as 5 seminars. Michael has earned 7 merit marks which is based on dedication and work that has been accomplished within the Squadron. 

The Educational Officer is elected annually by the members of the squadron upon nomination by the Squadron Nominating Committee and approval by the District Educational Officer acting for the National Educational Officer. He is a member of the District Educational Department, the Squadron Bridge and Squadron Executive Committee. The Educational Officer manages all of the educational activities of the squadron including public boating courses and the educational curriculum of the entire squadron membership. He encourages the membership to avail themselves of all the courses offered by the squadron.

Lieutenant Commander Steven Potestio joined the United States Power Squadrons in March of 1996 after completing the Boat SMART boating course where he earned his boating certificate. Steven added to his education by completing Boat Handling in 1998 earning the grade of Seaman, and Marine Navigation in 1999 earning the grade of Pilot.  In addition to earning the Grade of Advanced Pilot, he has completed courses on Engine Maintenance, and Electronic Navigation as well as 2 seminars. Steven has earned 22 merit marks which is based on dedication and work that has been accomplished within the Squadron. 

As a Bridge Officer, the Treasurer is expected to attend all district conferences as a squadron Representative. The Treasurer should take Operations Training as soon as practical. The Treasurer is responsible for accurate financial reports and records for policy guidance for the solvent operation of the squadron.

Lieutenant Commander Patricia May, AP joined the United States Power Squadron in June of 2018 after completing Boat Handling in the spring of 2018 and earning the grade of Seaman, Marine Navigation in the fall of 2018 earning the grade of Pilot, and Advanced Marine Navigation in the spring of 2019 earning the grade of Advanced Pilot. In addition to earning the grade of Advanced Pilot, she has completed seminars in Basic Weather and Forecasting, Using GPS, Man Overboard, Mariner’s Compass and Introduction to Navigation. Pat has earned 1 merit mark based on dedication and work that has been accomplished within the Squadron.

First Lieutenant Marie Wallach joined the United States Power Squadrons in May of 2015. Marie was quickly taken by our educational department and began by completing Boat Handling in 2017 earning the grade of Seaman, and Marine Navigation in 2018 earning the grade of Pilot. In 2018 Marie also completed Advanced Marine Navigation and earned the grade of Advanced Pilot. In addition to advanced grades, Marie has completed 13 seminars and Operations Training. In Marie’s 6 years of membership, she has earned 4 merit marks for her service. Marie has spend the last 3 years serving as our Educational Officer and is helping to pass the torch by serving as the assistant for 2021/2022.
