Last week was the halfway mark of the 2019/2020 Watch Year. Every time I
think about it I cannot believe how fast it is going by. It seems like just
yesterday was the Change of Watch and now were on the back 9. We still have a lot of fun events coming up and a lot more things to do! So far this year we have welcomed 12 new members into Great South Bay. I am very happy with this number, but I think we can do better. Be sure to talk to your dock mates and friends that aren’t members and get them signed up. Our discounted membership of $99 single and $149 family memberships will run until the end of my watch so take advantage!
Unfortunately, we had to cancel the fall picnic at Watch Hill. There were a number of factors that played into this decision, but the biggest one was that there is an
awful smell coming from the building that would have
been terrible if the wind was blowing toward us. We tried to move the picnic to Atlantique, or another nearby marina but were either unable to secure a permit quickly, or they could not accommodate us
on such short notice. While this is disappointing, we should be glad it did not happen the day before when the marina was full for Labor Day, and no one was injured. There are several district events coming up, please see Lt/C Kathy Matheson’s article about them. The Annual Stag Cruise at Tobay Marina will be held on Oct 4th through the 6th by Jones Beach. As
usual non-resident boats are permitted to attend, but you must indicate so when you mail in the flyer.
Concurrently there will be a Ladies Night on Oct 5th That flyer is attached as well. There will also be a Halloween Party on 10/26 at American Legion in Seaford. $100 cash prize for best costume! See flyer attached.
Those that attended would also like to thak Cdr Figueroa and Linda for being so welcoming to our squadron at the Lobster Fest. Everyone had a great time! I don’t want to spend too much time on Brianna’s Law, but we are thrilled that NYS has finally enacted a boater education mandate. The law is not perfect, but it is a massive step in the right direction.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon!
